{"id":7958,"date":"2025-07-21T01:46:21","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T00:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.simplex.com\/kb\/authorization-hold-why-was-i-charged-before-the-approval-of-my-payment-or-if-my-payment-was-not-successful"},"modified":"2025-09-03T15:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T14:13:24","slug":"authorization-hold-why-was-i-charged-before-the-approval-of-my-payment-or-if-my-payment-was-not-successful","status":"publish","type":"kb","link":"https:\/\/www.simplex.com\/kb\/authorization-hold-why-was-i-charged-before-the-approval-of-my-payment-or-if-my-payment-was-not-successful","title":{"rendered":"Authorization hold &#8211; why was I charged before the approval of my payment or if my payment was not successful?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>An authorization hold is a practice within the banking industry of <\/span><strong><span>reserving money<\/span><\/strong><span> at the start of a payment attempt to see <\/span><strong><span>if the card is eligible<\/span><\/strong><span> for the purchase. <\/span><br \/><span>The payment amount is being reserved, which may render the money <\/span><strong><span>unavailable<\/span><\/strong><span> until the transaction is <strong>completed or cancelled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span>Simplex <strong>takes funds from your account only once<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0your transaction is <strong>finalized<\/strong>.<br \/><\/span><span>If your payment is not completed or is declined\/cancelled, we will immediately void the authorization hold from our end<\/span><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The amount reserved is then released to your bank account in <strong>1 &#8211; 3 business days<\/strong> (not including weekends or other holidays, though usually it happens faster).<\/span><br \/><span>Please remember that this hold is <strong>done by your bank<\/strong>, not by Simplex itself, so <\/span><strong><span>we do not influence the speed at which your funds will be released<\/span><\/strong><span>. <\/span><br \/><span><br \/>If needed, please get in touch with us to check your authorisation status.<\/span><br \/><span>If, for some reason, the authorization hold is not released within <\/span><strong><span>3 business days<\/span><\/strong><span>, please check the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>Is the hold on the funds containing the word \u201cSimplex\u201d still visible in your banking statement?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>How long has it been since you carried out a payment attempt?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Were any weekends\/holidays included in the authorization hold period?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><br \/>If the hold is still visible after <strong>3 full business days<\/strong> since your transaction failed, please contact our support team for further investigation. <strong>We will require a screenshot of your bank statement with the still visible hold for investigation purposes<\/strong>.<\/span><br \/><span>You can contact us in two ways:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Live chat via the bottom right side of our homepage<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Submit a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplex.com\/help-center\/new-ticket\" target=\"_blank\"><span>ticket <\/span><\/a><span>through our Support Center.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An authorization hold is a practice within the banking industry of reserving money at the start of a payment attempt to see if the card is eligible for the purchase.
